Periodontal Disease Increases Your Risk Of Heart Attack And Other Cardiovascular Disease

Periodontal disease is an infection that is caused by bacteria in the mouth and commonly known as gum disease. The mildest form of periodontal disease is gingivitis and it is commonly indicated by red, swollen , inflamed and easy to bleed gums when brushing. When gum infection spreads below the gum line, advance periodontal disease occurs. If this happens the gum tissues and the bones that supports the teeth is exposed and infected thus tooth loss can happen.

However, periodontal disease and heart disease have been associated. Studies showed that the bacteria that is responsible for periodontal disease may enter the bloodstream and can cause arteries to clot resulting to heart attack and other certain cardiovascular disease. Periodontal disease increases the risk of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease.

Having a periodontal disease treatment can lower the risk of heart disease. Superior proper oral hygiene combined with regular visit to the dentist can prevent and completely avoid periodontal disease.
